After all the that has happened recently, I have realised that this hasn’t just happened recently - it’s been going on forever. 

#blacklivesmatter is not a temporary movement, and I felt that I needed to do more than just repost things on social media. I wanted to use my voice, SPEAK OUT, and make people aware that things are not ok. People of colour (POC) have always been racially oppressed and recently George Floyd died due to the knee of a police officer restricting blood flow to the brain. THIS IS NOT OK. This happened because he was believed to have used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for some cigarettes, and this man lost his LIFE! THIS IS NOT OK!

This topic maybe uncomfortable to talk about, but it surely can’t be as uncomfortable as experiencing this hate or brutality itself!

This month I want to educate myself on race, racism and inequality. I hope to be able to get to a point where I can educate other people about the topic and support POC. ALSO, I’m going to be raising money for Access UK by running everyday this month. Running is something I find very difficult and don’t enjoy, but at least I have the freedom to do it. Unfortunately, Ahmaud Arbery was shot dead by two white men when he was out jogging through a neighbourhood in Georgia. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in danger just because people have prejudice towards my skin colour whilst doing something as simple as jogging.

Access UK was suggested to me by my friend Georgia. They aim to:

“To be the leading BME youth employment advocate in the UK and provide innovative solutions to tackle youth crime.

Help to create a fair and transparent society, where youths are recruited on the basis of their skills and abilities, as opposed to their criminal past, skin colour or ethnicity”
