Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be joining a group of other fund raisers and we will set off from Blackpool Tower and be cycling our way to Eiffel Tower. That is a total of 500 miles.
I have not been on a bike for years so this is myself starting from scratch. I will be spending a lot of time raising monies for the charity and ask that people support my efforts and participate and donate as and when as every little helps and this will have an amazing positive impact on the great work this local charity does day to day.
Being an informal (unpaid) carer for a relative or a friend is one of the most rewarding and selfless things you can do with your time, but it can also be one of the most stressful, tiring and difficult jobs you will ever do. Many carers, young and old and all ages in between support their loved ones 24/7 day in, day out, often putting their own needs second.
Everyone needs help and support at various times in their life, and carers are no different. Plus a break from caring responsibilities, once in a while, or on a regular basis is something that helps carers continue their role and still look after their own health and well-being.
Blackpool Carers Centre is a multi-functional space where everyone is welcome and carers can drop in, take part in activities, get help and advice, or just a chance to kick back and relax with like-minded folk and people who quite simply understand what life as a carer is all about. The Centre is a registered charity, supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. It relies heavily on donations and fundraising to meet its running costs, has a community cafe, and a hair and beauty salon as part of its activities.
Imagine being a child and having pretty much all your spare time taken up with caring for your parent, or a an adult trying to support a young family and hold down a job whilst looking after an elderly relative, or an older person with health problems looking after their partner of many years. Like all of us, carers live varied lives. But what makes them really stand out is their unfailing commitment to those they care for, sometimes to the extent of putting their own lives on hold or giving up some or all of their precious 'me' time to support someone else.
Blackpool Carers Centre gives something back to carers - it gives back hope, and companionship, support, well-being, a listening ear, and practical help. You can help them to carry on this essential work and to help even more people in even more ways by making a donation. Simple, eh?
Am I daunted by the prospect of cycling nearly 500 miles in just 5 days? You betcha! Is it anything like as tough as it can be every single day for informal carers? Not even close!
Please help by donating or helping to raise some money for this very worthwhile cause. And remember, there but for the grace of all you believe in goes any of us .....Thanks for reading x
