Story
I am currently on a research placement with the Bone Cancer Research Trust in Leeds and the Department of Oncology and Metabolism at the University of Sheffield.
I have been so inspired by all the people I have met; from the fantastic team at the charity headquarters to the passionate and devoted scientists working in the lab. I've also been so moved by the horrific stories from patient's and their families whose lives have been utterly devastated by this brutal cancer.
Primary bone cancer is a disease that is not widely understood, amongst the general public nor the healthcare profession. This means many patients aren't correctly diagnosed until their cancer is quite advanced. It also means that primary bone cancer doesn't receive the levels of attention and funding it desperately needs. Currently patients (often young children) face aggressive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and life-altering surgery - many will have a limb amputated. Survival rates have seen little improvement over the past few decades.
I'm running this half marathon not only to raise money for research towards a cure but to also raise awareness for this wonderful charity - please give what you can!
Thanks so much!
