Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Our mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. These serious mental illnesses ruin and, too often, take lives. Our Helpline is available online or by phone for anyone suffering, as well as their family and friends.

Story

I was diagnosed with bulimia nervosa earlier this year and have struggled coping with the disorder for some time now. I've found the last few months particularly hard, but Beat have been amazing and are continuing to be there in my recovery. I'm now ready to open up about it and raise awareness.

Eating Disorders are serious mental illnesses which include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. They can affect any age, shape and size and for many people, particularly with bulimia, there may be no outward signs of the illness. For me, bulimia led to alcohol abuse, self harm and attempting to take an easy route out from confronting the disorder.

I signed up for this run because I was at a point where I didn't know what direction I was going in, but this has given me something positive to aim for. I'd also like to raise money in aid of other people who have been through or are going through an eating disorder.
