Olivia for Brodie

Stanmore to St Georges · 6 July 2021
UPDATED 26TH AUGUST
We walked on the 24th August - it took us 6 hours (including snack and toilet breaks- but we managed to do the actual walking in 5 and a half). My goal was to do it under 7 hours which we absolutely SMASHED!
Thanks so much everyone for all your support- I am still fundraising so if you haven't had a chance to donate yet, please still do.
I have updated the images with screenshots of the tracking app! To confirm, I was unable to walk the evening of - but the following morning I was back to normal and ready to go again!

A crainiotomy is the surgical removal of part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain. A subdural empyema type of intracranial infection commonly seen as a complication of sinusitis.
In October 2019 I had an operation (crainiotomy) to remove an infection on the brain (subdural empyema). I thought it was nothing more than a snotty nose but 2 weeks later I was admitted to St George's and so it began.
I spent a month on the Brodie Ward and am still blown away by the amazing support from the staff. The work they do everyday to keep you safe, clean and most of all feeling positive is remarkable and my family and I are so grateful. I met lots of different patients all of which were on their own journeys we shared tears, laughter and in the evenings we would ring the nurses for each other when we realised the other needed help. I learnt a lot about strength, determination and what it means to be truly kind.

Thanks for reading, it would be amazing if you could support me.
I speak about my experience on a web series (Released Voices) with the incredible Alim Jayda which is due to be released later this year and hope to inspire many others with my story. Stay tuned!
