The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2013, my mother, Kim, heard the three words that for the foreseeable future, still strike dread and despair into the recipient..."You've got cancer".

For those who don't know Kim, being defeated by this was not an option.

However strong a person may be, the despicable reality of going through cancer treatment requires support - lots of support.

There was never any doubt that support from family and friends would be there due to the magnificent people that surround Kim. But who could she call for advice at 3am when her bones felt like they were on fire from the chemo? Who could provide financial help and guidance when she was forced out of her home while still receiving radiotherapy?

Enter Macmillan.

I am eternally grateful to Macmillan for providing the kind of support which allowed Kim to focus her mind on recovery and rehabilitation. They were one of the many contributing factors that allow me to talk about my mum in the present tense, rather than the past.

Paying back Macmillan for all they did is going to be a lengthy process, so I though I'd better start with a biggie.

On October 25th 2015, I will be setting off from Land's End by bicycle. On October 28th, I will be arriving at John o'Groats. This is an approximate journey of 900 miles, or 225miles/day. Decreased light, rain, wind, hills, probably snow at some point, saddle sores, painful legs and an exhausted mind will make the journey that bit tougher - but when I think about what Kim went through, it seems simple.

Any donation you can provide will go towards helping people get through the barbarity of cancer.

Whatever your donation, I thank you at a cellular level.

Ollie

**UPDATE** - Two more confirmed riders (fools) for the full 4 days are Chris Molena of Market Drayton CC, the man who cycles by the day rather than the mile. And Matthew Garthwaite of Newport CC, for whom riding a bike seems more natural than metabolism.
