Last year I cycled the London Ride 100 in support of my wonderful mother who sadly passed away before I got to do the ride. She was so excited by the thought of me doing it and raising all the money for breast cancer care that I have decided to do it again this year. Now I know I can get around the course - which was last years challenge, I shall be trying to get a half decent time!
Cancer affects us all - everyone I speak to seems to have either lost a loved one to the disease, know someone fighting it or know someone close to them affected in some way or otehr by the horrible disease. In the same year my family and I lost my mum, I also lost my good friend and utterly incredible tutor Mark Hayduk. One of my oldedst and dearest friends, Steve, lost his mother just 3 months before I did and then on of my best friends, Tom, lost his mother only a couple of months after mum died. I sadly ran out of fingers and toes to count the number of people I knew who lost close friends and family in 2013.
This year I am riding not only in loving memory of my mum, but in support of all of my friends and family who lost someone close to them, are in the process of supporting someone in their fight, and of course in utter celebration of those of my friends' who know people who are winning their fight.
One of my biggest supports through all of this has been my fiancee Liam and his family, who experienced cancer 14 years ago when his dad passed away. For those who don't have experienced family members there for support, Breast Cancer Care does such an incredible job of helping to support those affected by cancer that I want to raise as much money for them as possible. I can't imagine that I shall get the £3700 odd I managed last year, for obvious reasons, but I'm darn well intending to have a good try at raising a good amount of sponsorship!
