Story
On Saturday 8th September, we will be swimming from Albania to Corfu to raise money for Royal Trinity Hospice. Our ‘Swim for Sammy’ is in memory of Sammy Johns who sadly lost her battle to aggressive melanoma aged 34 which she had been fighting on and off since November 2015.
All the gear and no idea?
Having purchased the finest of Speedo’s offerings and the
fastest swim hats on the market, we have both embarked on a disciplined training programme consisting of swimming lessons (yes, seriously!), early mornings and late evenings at Tooting Lido and a bracing open water swim in Surrey. All in preparation for the 4km open Ionian Sea that will stretch in front of us on the 8th of September. The exact distance that we will cover will depend on current and weather conditions on the day… but it’s a lot of front crawl.
Why Royal Trinity Hospice?
Royal Trinity Hospice are an independent charity that only receives a quarter of their funding from the government. They must raise £9 million every year to ensure they can provide their services free of charge to people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones in the seven boroughs they serve in London.
Royal Trinity Hospice is a charity very close to our heart. Unfortunately our dear Sammy was admitted to the hospice last year on 18th August where she sadly lost her battle two and half weeks later on 3rd September. Between both the Johns and Uglow families, there was never a moment when Sammy wasn’t with our company (usually with her sausage dog, Rafiki, cuddled up on her legs) and the around the clock care and support that we received from the doctors and nurses there will never be forgotten*.
We are hoping to raise £4,000 and your money will be put to
great use (for example, it costs £200 to fund one day of expert nursing care; £750 to fund a syringe driver to provide continuous effective pain relief).
Thank you in advance for your support. It really means the world and we know how much it will help others enduring time at Royal Trinity Hospice.
Love from Olly and Amber xx
