I am looking to raise as much money as possible for PSC support who are the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by the rare, autoimmune liver disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). PSC has no cure or medical treatment and donating to my fundraising page means you are helping PSC Support to provide much-needed support and information to people affected by PSC. 

In January 2022 and after over a year of many tests and scans I was unfortunately diagnosed with PSC which is a rare, immune mediated liver disease that progressively affects and causes damage to the bile ducts and in turn the liver. For some people, a liver transplant is needed and in fact, 10%–15% of all liver transplants in Europe are now for PSC.

PSC Support is an amazing charity that provides high quality education and support through information days and online services, and advocates for the needs of people affected by PSC in policy development and clinical services.  

Following my own diagnosis it was quite daunting when I fell into the trap of googling 'PSC' which painted a very grim story of my future.  However, when I eventually landed on the PSC support pages it was a huge source of comfort as the wealth of information available was easy to digest, and importantly, tells the story of PSC from the viewpoint of fellow PSC patients instead of hard science reporting on worst case clinical scenarios and studies.   I have also had access to, and made use of, their support line which helped me get through a couple of the more difficult moments since my diagnosis. 

PSC Support is working tirelessly to find a cure or treatment for PSC and they directly fund and commission specific PSC research.  I am already doing my bit to contribute to the research field having recently participated in a medical trial for a possible new treatment.

Whilst I am fortunate enough to still be fit and healthy I am keen to give something back to PSC Support and help contribute towards their amazing work in seeking to find effective treatments, and one day hopefully, a cure. As such I am in the process of training to complete the 24 hour National Three Peaks challenge on Saturday 15th July 2023 with 5 buddies which involves climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales all within.....yep, you guessed it..... 24 hours.
