Freedom Wheels builds custom bikes for kids living with a disability freeing them to experience the independence and joy of cycling. Many of these kids can't stand or walk unaided but with Freedom Wheels they can ride just like their siblings and friends!

Story

Mitchel Olsen is 14 and is riding his 5th Freedom Wheels bike in the 2017 Spring Cycle alongside his mum, dad and two brothers.

Mitch was born with Cerebral Palsy and can’t stand or walk unaided. Despite this Mitch and his family will be riding the 16km river course on October 15th because as dad Scott says, ‘the 10kms isn’t enough of a challenge!’

Mitchel came to Freedom Wheels in 2006 and received his first bike on his 3rd birthday. He instantly loved it, this was the first time he could move himself around any distance. Since then Mitch has graduated through a series of well-loved Freedom Wheels bikes.

At 8 years old, Mitch joined the Southern Cross Cycling Club in Sutherland who gifted him a odometer which is about to tick over to a total 6,000km! Mitch has ridden his bikes in junior cycling races at Mt Panaorma, Goulburn and Sydney.

The Olsen family all brought bikes and enjoy long family outings cycling together. Together they have ridden it all over Sydney, Canberra, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, the south and central coasts and the central west.

You can help other kids like Mitch get their first bike too by donating to Freedom Wheels
