Story
On Sunday the 11th of October 2009, I will be running in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon. I admit, it's my first Half Marathon, and am looking forward to the day with a degree of apprehension as well as excitement! I am raising money as part of Team UNICEF UK.
With its worldwide presence, UNICEF is ready to respond rapidly, wherever disaster strikes, delivering life-saving help for children. In addition, UNICEF is invovled in education, child development, immunisation, child protection and HIV/ AIDS action ( through its global Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign).
How will your donation help?
£1 gives 10 children living with HIV a week's supply of life-saving antibiotics
£32 provides 1000 sachets or oral rehydration salts to treat life threatening dehydration caused by acute diarrhoea
£50 supplies teaching kits for eight schools to reach thousands of students with HIV/AIDS prevention messages
£87 provides a water pump to supply clean water locally and ensure that girls no longer have to miss school in order to travel long distances to collect water for their families
£115 provides a school-in-a-box for at least 80 children, so education can continue during emergency conditions. That's less than £1.50 per child. The kit contains materials such as chalk, pens and books.
