Story
I am running the Brighton 5k colour run in aid of the British Heart Foundation. I am running in memory of my wonderful Dad, Peter, who passed away suddenly in 2012 following a heart attack. BHF do fantastic, lifesaving work to help the thousands of people like my Dad who are affected every year by heart disease.
As somebody who spent their youth bunking off PE lessons and avoiding sport like the plague, I would be more at home with a sponsored eat-all-the-quality-street or perhaps a wine-marathon, but this feels more of an apt challenge for the cause. I hope you will be tickled by the thought of me, close genetic relative of the cabbage, attempting to train in the wind & rain (and even on holiday!) to get to this point and will be slightly more inspired to give!
Having overcome my natural suspicion that the wooded areas and parkland around my house is filled with serial killers and Other Scary Dudes, highlights of the couch-to-5k plan included:
- unexpected encounters with scary dogs, overly friendly dogs and escaped livestock
- falling over in the mud
- being easily overtaken by my 8 year old neighbour
- the discovery that a sufficient number of blisters can merge into a SUPER BLISTER.
