Story
Happy birthday to me!
For the past few years, I have undertaken a running challenge on my birthday (24th February), raising funds for the Andrew Grene Foundation. I am the director of fundraising, so it seems fitting
for me to step up once a year and “put my money where my mouth is”, so to speak!
My challenges have ranged from a half-marathon in Haiti in the heat, to running everyday in February. We have all had a tough couple of years, but throughout these times, our supporters have stayed engaged with us, even though we have been unable to visit them or our projects in person, due to all the various restrictions.
So, this year, to say thank you to all our dedicated supporters, and to really challenge myself, I have decided to run a marathon. But not in the traditional sense! This marathon will be run, one mile, every
hour, for 26 hours. I will start at 6am on my birthday (24th Feb) and finish at 8am on the following day. The last mile will be 1.2 miles to make up the full marathon distance.
We need new cooking facilities at the Andrew Grene High
School. Currently, we use charcoal to heat the food for the lunches we provide for all students and staff daily, but this is expensive bad for the environment, so we would like to replace our current cooking facilities with new gas stoves. The cost of implementing these changes is £2,500 so that is my fundraising target for this challenge.
You are invited to join me for one or as many miles as you like during the 26-hour running period, so no matter where you are in the world, your time difference won’t matter – so no excuses! You can sign up for your mile via our website www.andrewgrene.org
I will be available via video link on WhatsApp during the challenge, and will run on the hour every hour, so if you are joining me, please do let me know and we can link up and enjoy the mile together (virtually).
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for one
(or more) miles over the 26-hour period, and thank you as always, for your ongoing support.
Jane
