Story

ONE MILLION KG CHALLENGE FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS - RAISING AWARENESS FOR THE 176 MILLION WOMEN AFFECTED GLOBALLY! OR 1 IN 10 !

For those of you who don’t know much about endometriosis, it is a chronic pain disease where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Symptoms can include debilitating pain throughout the body, fatigue, IBS, and an inability to conceive. As a result of this, it can lead to isolation and depression.  It can impact on all areas of a person’s life including their relationships and also cause difficulties fulfilling work and social commitments. On average it takes years from the onset of symptoms to get a diagnosis! due to the lack of understanding and research. The NHS has listed endometriosis among the 20 most painful medical conditions: we are on a mission to raise money & awareness!

WHAT ARE WE DOING? We are a group of SIX fathers, husbands and brothers who are raising awareness for the females in our lives who are suffering, by putting our fitness to the challenge and using free weights (weighted squats, deadlifts, barbell rows and bench press) to move 1,000,000 KG within 24 hours.

Not sure what this means? The weight is the equivalent of lifting and moving 200 fully grown elephants! So it’s not going to be easy…

When: from midday 19th May 2023 to midday 20th May

Where: Halton Gym, Halton, Bucks

We have an ambition to raise £100,000, or 10 pence per KG! Any donations, no matter how small or big, would be hugely appreciated to support such a cause.

All money raised will go to Endometriosis UK. Endometriosis UK provide free, reliable information about endometriosis on their website

www.endometriosis-uk.org

and through their printed and downloadable materials. Their Support Network provides vital, emotional support and information to those who have endometriosis through their support group, helpline and webchat service, enabling them to understand their disease and take control of their condition.

If we manage to raise £100,000 with your help we’ll be able to fund the helpline and webchat support service at Endometriosis UK for a whole year as well recruit and train at least two new volunteers to help run this service! This service is a life line for many and is in demand  more than ever due to the long NHS
waiting lists, which is disproportionately affecting those on gynaecological lists.

Endometriosis UK also work tirelessly to raise public awareness and understanding to ensure that everyone knows about endometriosis and its' symptoms. They also work with policy and decision makers to fight for change and demand improvements in endometriosis care and treatment options- together we can turn things around and do our part to ensure that everyone with endometriosis gets the treatment and support they need, when they need it!

Over 1.5 million in the UK have endometriosis and the impact of the disease is for some devastating, yet diagnosis takes on average 8 years. With your donations we are turning this around, raising awareness, providing support and information, supporting research, and campaigning for change.
