Story
It is estimated that one in every five adults today have faced one form of child abuse whether emotional, physical, sexual, or domestic abuse before the age of 16 years. Children that undergo severe maltreatment grow up to have poor mental health and self-harm thoughts.
We are a group of postgrad students who have launched a project in support of NSPCC - the charity that fights against child abuse. This issue is very close to our heart, as children are the most vulnerable and under-protected group who cannot reach for help without the support from adults. It is our responsibility to create an environment where every child is able to find a protection and therefore, we aim to support kids through the concept of “play.” Research has linked sports with reducing stress, pain and releasing endorphins. In addition, sports are also central to managing anger, boosting confidence and having a healthy body and mind.
The main idea of our project is to run sports related sessions of self-defense, dance, and yoga where people can have fun. During these classes we will talk about the charity and its aims, but most importantly we will raise awareness about an important issue of child abuse. However, our team also want to remind people of their own childhood and how they used to have lots of fun just from being active. The suggested donation for attending the sessions is 10 pounds but we will be happy with as much as you would want to give. If you would like to donate but cannot attend the sessions, please donate through this page. Remember, just £4 can help fund one distress call to ChildLine support.
Some highlights:
- Classes will run from 2nd of August till 11th of August
- Every class will have 2 sessions, so you can join the session that is more convenient to you in term of time.
- Every class will run for an hour.
- This is to support children who need our help so you are welcome to donate as much as you want.
- Classes will be run by experienced coaches and will be guaranteed fun.
Once you donate, your money will be automatically directed to the charity and will not be collected by us.
Thank you so much for your help in such an important issue.
