Ophelia's story...
In 2010 we tragically lost our little girl Honor at four months to a missed miscarriage. SANDS were there throughout, providing care, advice and support. They even helped guide us through the funeral service. The pain was intolerable, but we were thrilled to discover in August 2012 that we were expecting another girl.
Due to previous complications we had an amazing team of consultants who we saw weekly for scans, examinations and who put us on a strict daily routine of medication and injections. We had 5+ wonderful, exciting, nervous, happy months carrying our little girl and everything was going so well, which is why it was so unexpected that during the anomaly scan at 20 weeks, they detected an issue with her heart. Such was the nature of this that we were immediately referred to the John Radcliffe in Oxford. The following day after numerous scans and further tests, we were told her condition was fatal - there was nothing anyone could do.
Our beautiful, tiny, perfect daughter Ophelia was born asleep on the 23rd Dec 2012. We spent some time with her while the chaplain that we had seen just two years before came to bless her.
We can't believe yet again our baby has been taken from us. We are devastated, utterly heart broken and desperate to make sense of it all. We ache to hold our daughter. To lose one child causes unimaginable pain, but to lose two - there are just no words. Sadly we know all too well what a long painful road lies ahead for us and our families.
Rest in peace with your sister little Ophelia, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to love you - you will be in our hearts forever and we will never forget you.
We have set up a just giving page in Ophelia's memory - all the money goes to SANDS to help them continue their invaluable work and care for families like ours.
Thank you all for your support, love and kindness.
