Christian Aid Week 2021
Campaign by Christian Aid (RCN 1105851, SC039150)
Drought drives people to the brink. Storms tear families apart. Raging waters show no mercy. In Kenya the climate crisis has made weather more extreme, whether long drought or relentless rainstorms. Join us this Christian Aid Week (10th -16th) May!

Story

A big THANKYOU to everyone who has walked and/or given. We've smashed our step target and raised £1,130 for local projects which really make a difference. At the beginning of May a group of 14 walkers in Bishopstoke Parish set out to walk 1 million steps. As we recorded the steps, we mapped out how far these would take us (virtually) across Kenya as we were focussing on climate change and how to enable local communities in Kenya to counteract its impact. By the end of the month our numbers had increased to 19 and we had walked an incredible 2,673,994 steps. You can see how far that takes us from Nairobi across Africa on the map above. In all these countries there are small communities, with people just like Rose in Kenya. You can see her story below. The climate crisis is leaving people hungry, homeless and heartbroken. People like Rose in Kenya are struggling to survive without a reliable source of water. From drought to flooding, climate chaos robs people of control over their lives. I often feel hungry, Rose says. Because of climate change, I worry a lot about food. I pray to God that the rainfall will become normal like it used to be. In recent years, the drought has been so bad that its caused a hunger crisis. Crops wither and die. Rivers run dry. People struggle to survive. The coronavirus pandemic has only made this lack of water more critical for Rose. Without water for handwashing, it is a struggle to stay safe from the virus. Please support our fundraising and help to provide reliable water source, for people like Rose.  Your gift will help support Christian Aid's vital work with some of the poorest communities in the world. Thank you! We're walking because she's walking so far for safe, sustainable water each day.
