Marathon Dates!
- Brighton - September 12, 2021
- London - October 3, 2021
- Manchester - October 10, 2021
Hello,
Well, let's kickstart this thing again! This page was originally for my 2020 marathon plans which were going to see me take on Brighton again, followed by London. The pandemic understandably caused these to be cancelled with my places being pushed to this year, 2021. However, I thought I'd make it even more of a challenge, silly me... so I've also signed up for the Manchester marathon. 😎
As you may know, I ran the Brighton marathon in 2019, I completed the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 49 minutes, so my aim across all 3 marathons is just to simply beat this! I don't reckon I've got a sub 3:30 in my locker just yet. 🥴
2019, my brother and I managed to raise an impressive £1400 for this same charity who have to rely solely upon donations in order to continue providing their life-saving services. I'd be extremely grateful if you can see the value and be kind enough to donate once again! 🤩
I've also connected my Strava so you can see how I'm getting on with my training!
Please see below for a better understanding of why the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust is so close to our family:
My Dad back in 2003 was driving back from a normal day’s work when he had a stroke suddenly. This made him lose consciousness and caused the Transit van he was driving to roll over several times and ending up in a ditch upside down, along Charing Hill on the way back from Canterbury. The weight of the van rested on his chest and arm, as his window was open.
He was in a very critical condition and was not breathing following the accident. He had to be airlifted to William Harvey Hospital immediately, where he was subsequently put on life support for over a month as his lungs weren’t strong enough to breathe unaided.
My Mum was told to prepare for the worst as they didn’t think he would make it through. I was very young at the time so didn’t really understand what was going on.
After over 3 months of being in the hospital, our Dad eventually came home, but his arm which got broke in numerous places in the crash was still in plaster and caused him many problems in years to come while also causing many other health-related issues later on in life.
Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance played a very critical part in saving my Dad’s life and I want to show my ongoing thanks by running these marathons on their behalf.
Thank you for taking your time to read this and I am extremely grateful for any donations, no matter how small. Sharing on social media also really helps!
Cheers, Oscar B.
