Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Kidney failure is a condition in which one or both of the kidneys can no longer work on their own. This condition is also called renal failure. Treatments for kidney failure include dialysis - Douglas goes on the dialysis machine every night for 8 long hours. If he didnt do this for 3 weeks .He wouldnt be with us now. This is his only life line to keep him alive. And kidney transplant - Douglas via Covid 19 had got taken of the transplant list. Now we are pleased to say he is now back on the list and waitting for a match.

This has been a family crisis so it will be the whole family taking part in this challenge.

(7 Miles over the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth. That is a whopping 20 times walk over the bridge.)We have had to slightly change this event due to the Tamar Bridge will be closed to the public walkers.

Walking with Kidney Failure: kidney failure and inability to walk

  • skin infections from dry skin and itching
  • increased risk of infections
  • abnormal electrolyte levels
  • joint, bone, and muscle pain
  • weak bones
  • nerve damage
  • changes in blood glucose level.
  • Breathing problems

So as you can see this is a huge challenge for the whole family to get Doug though the 5000 steps a day.Follow the Kerr Family Event Page for updates for all the 7 Bridge Walks.

WE CAN DO THIS ,with the help of each and everyone of you to encouraging and give Douglas the confidence that he can walk so far.We need to keep positive and giving hope for the future success of hopefully a transplant. This is going to be very difficult,BUT WE CAN GET THERE.

Quote by Doug himself "It feels like i have to learn to walk again just like babies first steps".

Walk to be due on Sunday 30 August and finishing on the 5th September 2020 .Walking everyday.Even on Douglas's main work days.
