Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are raising funds for Ova the Rainbow, a charity that helps and support women with ovarian cancer.

I want to raise funds for this charity because in December last year, after what I thought would be a pretty routine trip, my doctor found what she called a 'mass' in my abdomen. After numerous tests and scans they informed me that they had found a tumor on my ovaries, and they were highly suspicious it was malignant. They also said that there were small signs of disease elsewhere. Not the news anyone wants to hear..

I would need to have surgery to remove the tumor and any other signs of disease that may be found. After a couple of delays, I had my surgery at the beginning of March; a full hysterectomy, omentectomy and 2 'nodules' removed from other organs. We then had to wait for the results to come back from biopsy and, thankfully, after what felt like an eternity of waiting, my results came back as borderline. This means that I don't need any further treatment which is fantastic news! However, some women aren't as lucky as me in their diagnosis..  Having gone through the process myself, I know how important it is to feel like you have help and support when you need it. I have an amazing family and circle of friends who I would have been lost without over the past seven months.

Ova the Rainbow offer a support circle for those who need it following a diagnosis of gynaecological cancer, and was established by two of the nurses that were part of my care team. It's a chance for women to meet others who have or are going through the same thing. Funds help to continue with regular meetings, day trips and other activities (all Covid permitting).

With this in mind, Lee wants to do something to raise as much money as he can. So along with his stepdad Phil and uncle Gary, they will be riding a 185 mile round trip to Sid's Cafe (the cafe featuring in the long running sitcom 'Last of the Summer Wine') in Holmfirth. This is a huge ride and will take them around 15 hours to complete!

It would mean a massive amount to both of us if you could help us meet our target and thank you so much for reading our story.
