We assist young people, victims and witnesses of crime, and vulnerable members of the community via grants to individuals, or organisations. We also assist many locally based charities. Applications come from our members highlighting worthy causes to us, linking our members with their communities

Mark Dickinson is a colleague who is jumping (falling?) on behalf of Dreamflight, which is a charity that takes seriously ill children to Florida for the holiday of a lifetime. In a moment of weakness I agreed to join him although as a qualified private pilot it seem the most unnatural thing to do - I mean, why jump out of a perfectly working and serviceable aircraft?

I've chosen to assist another charity as well as Merseyside Police Federation Charitable Trust and Dreamflight, as I want to support the North West Police Benevolent Fund.

So I'll be raising monies through the Federation Trust for victims of crime suffering loss, hardship or distress. The Trust has also been able to support a wide range and number of community groups and projects some requiring help with sporting kits and specialist equipment; some needing help to recognise good works by youth groups across our Force area; some needing support following vandalism and damage of play equipment; some needing support to relocate following race hate crimes and some just needing to know that someone cares.

I will also be assisting seriously ill children as mentioned above through Dreamflight, and through the Benevolent Fund I will be helping serving and retired Police Officers who are suffering through injury illness or other hardship or distress.

I'd like to make at least £500 for each - hence the £1500 target!
