Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Christian Aid supporters from Sudbury and the surrounding area are paddling along the River Stour to raise money for a brilliant project in West Bank and Lebanon with people with disabilities.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
***GREAT NEWS*** for every £1 donated, the European Union will add a further £3, quadrupling your donations!
Across the world, people living with disabilities often face more obstacles to being fully involved in society than the rest of the population. This is especially true in poorer countries.
In Lebanon and the West Bank (occupied Palestinian territory), there are approximately 500,000 people living with disabilities.
Practical difficulties, discrimination and outdated attitudes towards people with disabilities prevent them from fully participating in society and the workplace.
The project
This project, delivered in partnership with the Lebanese Physically Handicapped Union (LPHU) and the East Jerusalem YMCA, will directly benefit 30,000 people living in Lebanon and the West Bank over its three-year lifetime.
Its wider impact will improve prospects for many thousands more and continue to make a difference into the future.
Money donated to this project will help to:
• Provide training and careers guidance for people living with disabilities
• Improve job prospects for people living with disabilities
• Improve working conditions, including workplace adaptation
• Increase awareness of issues people living with disabilities face – particularly among employers
• Improve the laws that protect the rights of people living with disabilities
