Story
I've decided to take on an Ironman 70.3, which will involve a 2km swim, 90km bike and 21km run.
This was not something I had planned on doing until much older, but after losing a close friend to suicide last September, I made it my goal to to something in his memory. Olly was a natural athlete and despite his height always made me look small after a gym session. He told me he had some triathlon experience, and so, no better challenge than an Ironman to do him justice. He had such a kind soul and I will always cherish the moments we had, which quite often was a combination of getting swole in the gym and getting binned when we weren't supposed to.
Olly's death was a massive shock and has really highlighted the extensiveness of mental health issues in the world with 1 in 3 people taking antidepressants at some point throughout their life. Which to me is seriously scary and something that needs more awareness and attention from the world.
My hope is that the money raised here is able to go towards providing support and care for someone in need and that they are able to recover and can go on to grow old, which Olly unfortunately can no longer do.
I'll try my best to run the half marathon in flip flops, but no promises.
Miss you mate,
Paddy
