Story
For the last 5 years I have unsuccessfully applied to run the London Marathon. I have shied away from applying for a charity place as I was never quite sure of my ability to complete the distance.
Andy contracted 'an ear ache' just before Christmas last year and before any of us could really grasp what was happening he was in hospital, then in a coma and then on end of life care. He passed away in January.
Bacterial Meningitis was the cause. Andy was healthy and kind, he had friends and colleagues across the UK and continents that respected him enormously. To have someone like Andy taken away because of 'an infection' is a tragedy that should not happen to anyone ever again. He leaves behind devastated colleagues, friends, family, his daughter, and his partner Rachel who's world has been turned upside down.
I applied to the Meningitis trust this year for entry to the 2024 Marathon and have been accepted. This fills me with honour and terror in equal amounts. I am honoured to run in Andy's name and filled with anxiety that I don't let him down.
I am running the 2024 London Marathon because I want to help Meningitis Research Foundation achieve their goal of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.
Please help me by offering what ever you are able in support of this cause. Your support will of course benefit the Meningitis trust for whom I am running but also me personally in providing that additional motivation (peer pressure) to keep me focused and pounding the streets through winter in preparation for next April.
Bacterial Meningitis is a horrible illness, it literally kills. Any one of us or anyone you know could catch it. The smallest donation will contribute towards research and cure.
