Story

GOOD DEEDS 24

‘Good Deeds 24’ is a project organised by the Unspoken charity lead by Atiq Rehman, who comes into Sawtry Village Academy regularly to do motivational speeches to students in assemblies.
This project is the second 24hr project they have arranged, where a number of good deeds are completed, including attending organisations who support vulnerable groups in the community.
During this 24hr project, the BBC TV show ‘The One Show’ will be following Atiq and his team in recognition of his works and broadcasting on their show. A proposed timetable has been allocated for a number of site visits during the teams 24hrs including visiting Luton to feed the homeless, and provide aid to refugees and people in need, The Amazon Children’s Ward at Peterborough City Hospital, to donate toys and gifts for the children facing chronic diseases and complex needs and to Little Miracles, who will be receiving a full renovation and decoration by the Unspoken trades team at their amazing centre, who offer support to families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life limiting conditions.
Atiq would very much like to involve Sawtry Village Academy in the ‘Good Deeds 24’ in the fundraiser, for one of the groups supported in this 24hrs. Following a meeting with Jack Clarke (Fitness Manager at Academy Leisure) and Neil Wilson (Assistant Principal, and Atiqs’ PE teacher 25 years ago) it was decided this would be The Peterborough Down Syndrome Group.
The proposal is an exciting and rewarding challenge to our Year 7 students, week commencing 20th March, to take on a mammoth 160 km indoor cycle in 30-minute stints throughout the whole week and adding their distances together to try and achieve the target. This is the equivalent of the distance Atiq and his team will be covering in ‘Good Deeds 24’ Peterborough to Luton and back, before the Good Deeds 24 team attend Sawtry Village Academy on the morning of Tuesday 28th March to take part in an assembly with the whole of Year 7.
Sponsorship for this event will be via a link on the Sawtry Village Academy website with all funds going to the Peterborough Down Syndrome Group. If you are Year 7 and would like to get involved, please register your interest with Mrs McCloskey. Students who make the team will miss an hour of lessons that week to take part in this event.
