Story

Next month I will be visiting Islamic Relief funded projects as well as challenging myself to trek to Rakaposhi base camp, and take on activities such as river rafting, ice climbing and much more, inshallah. This will be one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced,  but it is all for a worthy cause!

As I prepare to embark on this trip, the opportunity for which I am grateful for,  I am reaching out to you for help with rebuilding homes for families who lost everything in last year’s devastating floods. The decline in media coverage does not accurately reflect the continued disruption to everyday life. Millions of people were affected and, unfortunately, whole communities lost everything, including their homes, as well as vital public infrastructure. Alhamdullilah, the floods are gone, but those affected still need help rebuilding their lives.

Your donations will help families affected by the crisis with a home to both protect them from the elements and rebuild their lives. The homes will include a living space, a kitchen (equipped with a stove), and a bathroom. They will be built with inclusion measures in mind to support the elderly and persons with disabilities, such as widened doors, a ramp, and a commode chair in the bathroom.

Your support could be the difference between life and death for many who have already endured so much.

Islamic Relief, a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), has been working in Pakistan since 1992, and were one of the first aid agencies to respond to initial flooding.

Their teams have been working tirelessly since the initial floods, and are on the ground right now, working with local communities to establish how best to support affected families.

Islamic Relief Pakistan has already supported more than 800,000 people in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

The Prophet, upon be peace, said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

So please support by donating whatever you can spare, share the link and keep these families in your prayers. Let’s all try to help make a small but positive difference. 💙

Further info: Last year extremely heavy rainfall in Pakistan resulted in catastrophic flash flooding, leaving one-third of the country underwater. More than 33 million people were affected and over 1,700 people died, including more than 640 children. Described as a “climate catastrophe” by the UN Secretary-General, the floods left a staggering 33 million people affected, including 8 million people displaced.
