Step for St Mary's Hospice

March for March · 1 March 2021
From the Hospice - I am completing 9000 steps a day for 31 days to support St Mary's Hospice. It costs £9000 a day to run St Mary's and with our support, they can be there to care for those who need it most.
Our Story - In 2019 our lovely Mum and special Grandma was a patient of St Mary’s Hospice here in Ulverston. She was a Volunteer and a great advocate of the fabulous work throughout St Mary’s, not ever thinking that one day ‘I might need the help and support from the Staff Team’.
Mum was diagnosed on February 28th 2019 and passed away courageously on April 9th 2019 - during the time she was poorly she was lucky enough to have care from Hospice at Home, was an inpatient on two occasions and decided that her end of life would be with the Hospice. The time she and we as a family were there with her was a privilege, as mentioned earlier ‘she was lucky enough’ .... this is what our Mum believed and we all shared that experience with her.
Our town is so lucky to have the Hospice so close and until you have their support I don’t think you can understand just how they support the whole family as well as the Patient, who’s every need is met, I know I didn’t.
Finally, our parents loved living here in Ulverston, loved the town and surrounding area so much; we would like to try and help keep our Hospice by supporting this month with ‘March for Money’.
I am going to challenge myself to walk 9km each day in March additional to my normal ‘steps’. I hope to achieve this by doing 1 sometimes 2 walks per day. (In line with Government Guidelines, my 1st walk will be early morning and my Daily Exercise and my 2nd will be on the way home from work)
Thank you for reading our story and if you can help by making a contribution please accept our thanks.
