Story

Hi there, my name is Pam Smith aka Gramela Sweetlegs, and I am a feisty Oxfordshire pensioner who is about to tackle the one of toughest challenges in my 71 years on this earth. I am going to Germany to test my mettle, my stamina, my determination and my resolve. Nope, I won't be trying to beat the world record for chomping on spicy German sausages.

I shall be running THE BERLIN MARATHON!!

Oh yes, while others of my years are spending their days watching Cash in the Attic, playing bingo and drinking Horlicks, I have decided to raise vital funds for Alheimer's Society by running 26.2 miles through the streets of Berlin this autumn, just to see if I have still got that old va-va-voooooom.

It is 15 years since I last attempted a marathon, and I was somewhat of a speedy wee minx back in my heyday, I can tell you. And hopefully all these years later, these legs will not let me down during my German challenge. And hopefully, neither will all of you as I try to raise £1000.00 for my chosen charity.

As a member of the fantastic running club that is Headington Road Runners, in Oxford, I have been competing in Road races and running challenges for the past 30 years. Now I will represent my Club on the streets of the German city of Berlin, and as I finish at the beautiful Brandenburg Gate and cross that line, the funds that I have raised for this wonderful charity will be as important to me as that elusive medal. So please, do support and give as much or as little as you can. You'd be making an old woman very happy and helping her keep those feet moving on Sunday 29 September 2019.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Thank you all for your support and your donations.
