Story
my name is pam deans im 51 I'm doing a trek up mount kilamonjaro (5,896m), its in january 2013 to raise money for two charities.
The event is classed as extreme, the altitude is the main problem, it can make you feel neausia, dizzy, headaches, unable to sleep at times until your body adapts, so the trek is taken at a steady pace, not everyone makes it and has to decent back down, it will take me 10 days to reach the summit, the temperature will hit around -20 degrees so you have to be reasonably fit for this challenge, i workout 5 times a week inbetween work and family life, this consists of : jogging, biking, going to the gym and walking at the weekends covering several miles at different destinations around the country.
I love a challenge the tougher the better, im not new to challenges this will be my third big fundraiser challenge, ive completed the 3 peaks challenge which i raised funds for meninghitis, Everest Base camp trek which i rasied funds for bowel cancer, im funding my own costs so all that i raise will go to my chosen charitys.
I'm raising money for my local kingsmill hospital, the breast screening unit. A few years ago i had a mammogram ,the results was that they found a shadow on the xray ,they took a biopsy but didnt get a result, so i had an operation which came back as cystic change .I was glad i had a momagram, if the results came back cancerous i was in the early stages and treatment would have been a success, ive also lost family members from breast cancer, So thats why i want to raise funds for the breast screening unit , the charity does know that what i raise is going to the breast screening unit.
All your suuport is greatly appreciated and will help beat cancer in the early stages.
Many Thanks
Pamela Deans
