Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Nkosi Johnson was a South African child born HIV positive. He lost his mother to AIDS and was adopted by Gail Johnson. They campaigned together in South Africa and the United States to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and Nkosi gained world attention when he spoke out at an international AIDS conference shortly before he died, aged 12. Local and international interest continued to grow following extensive media coverage of Nkosi's life, including a documentary commissioned by the BBC in 2001. In 2003 the Nkosi Johnson AIDS Unit was opened at London's Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. In 2005 Nkosi was posthumously awarded the first ever Children's Nobel Peace Prize. Gail has continued Nkosi's legacy by setting up a refuge in Johannesburg for mothers with AIDS, their children and orphans of AIDS victims who are usually abandoned by their families and ostracised by their communities. This special place - Nkosi's Haven - is where they can find a family again and live in an environment of acceptance and understanding. Two other projects, a village and a farm, are underway. I'm doing a six days walk on the Great Wall of China later this year to try to raise as much money as I can through the Robert Grace Trust to help Gail with the wonderful work she does. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Robert Grace Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many, many thanks for your support. Pam
