Run to the Beat 2013 · 8 September 2013 ·

Giving Hope and Dignity to extremely poor disabled children through education and vocational training enabling them to join mainstream society.

Story

Dear All

Following on from a previous 10km run completed in 2011, Jermaine and I have decided to run the Nike Run to Beat Half Marathon (13 miles) in London on Sunday 8 September for a cause which we both support by the name of Polio Children (www.poliochildren.org) .

As many of you are aware, my family set this charity up in 2003, with the primary aim of raising the awareness of polio and to help extremely poor children suffering from polio and other similar physical disabilities to regain their lives with dignity. The charity has historically focused on helping to fund projects and improvements at a school (www.sksn.org) in Rajasthan, India.

More recently, the charity has also supported a trust (http://www.kwamkono.org.uk/) set up to support a hostel based in Tanzania for children with polio and other physical disabilities.

The children at both organisations come from extremely poor backgrounds and often been labelled as outcasts and have been pushed out of mainstream society, sometimes by their own family. The focus has been on providing education and nutrition, in the hope that one day these children can go on to live a normal life and integrate into mainstream society, which is central to Polio Children's objectives.

We are specifically raising money for the hostel in Tanzania to purchase a new tractor. This will allow them to farm the 16 hectares of land that they currently have, which will result in the following benefits:

·         Ready supply of maize to feed the children at the hostel

·        Enable the hostel to become more self-sustaining and progress towards independence

·         Provide local jobs

·        Provide the hostel with a revenue stream by selling extra produce to enable them to purchase basic essentials for the children

The target for this project is £18,000, and given that the next planting season is imminent, your donation could not be more timely.

Any donation, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.

Your donation means a lot to us and to Polio Children.

Thanks

Pankeel and Jermaine
