Panthera is devoted to preserving wild cats and their critical role in the world’s ecosystems. Our team of leading biologists, law enforcement experts, and wild cat advocates develop innovative strategies based on the best available science to protect wild cats and their vast landscapes.

Story

The tiger is the world’s largest cat, and it is also the most threatened with extinction. One hundred years ago, as many as 100,000 wild tigers roamed the forests and grasslands of Asia. Today, fewer than 3,200 tigers remain in the wild in 13 countries.

Tigers face major threats from three things - poaching, loss of prey species, and fragmentation and destruction of habitat.

Panthera is working tirelessly to combat these threats.  Through the Tigers Forever program, we are partnering with local communities, local and national governments, and conservation organizations across Asia to implement effective enforcement of protected areas through well-trained park guards, protect and monitor tiger and prey populations, and secure tiger habitat.

Panthera is the world’s leading organization devoted exclusively to the conservation of wild cats and their ecosystems.  Utilizing the expertise of the world’s premier cat biologists, Panthera develops and implements global conservation strategies for the largest, most imperiled cats – tigers, lions, jaguars, and snow leopards.  Representing the most comprehensive effort of its kind, Panthera works in partnership with local and international NGOs, scientific institutions, local communities and governments around the world.  By conserving cats, which are apex predators and keystone species, we in turn conserve their habitats, and all the other species that rely on those areas, including humans.

Your gift is supporting critical work that while focused on saving tigers, goes far beyond.
