Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Parc Slip Nature Reserve, situated in Tondu, Bridgend is WTSWW’s flagship nature reserve in South Wales and supports a wide variety of wildlife. The nature reserve supports over 1,000 different species of wildlife, from Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly and Great Crested Newt, to overwintering wildfowl and breeding Lapwing.

To increase the biodiversity of Parc Slip even further, WTSWW has recently created a series of ponds and wader scrapes which cover over 3ha of formally improved agricultural fields. The new scrapes will benefit a host of wetland species; particularly Parc Slip’s breeding Lapwing population as well as other waders and wildfowl.

To enable as many people as possible to enjoy the wildlife, we are currently fundraising towards the cost of an elevated bird hide, which will stand some 3m off the ground and provide wonderful views across the new scrapes and all its wildlife.

The new elevated bird hide will be named the Mary Gillham Hide, after the late Dr Mary Gillham MBE, who dedicated her life to the understanding and enjoyment of wildlife and in doing so inspired generations of ecologists and wildlife enthusiasts alike. WTSWW hopes that the elevated bird hide will be a fitting tribute to Mary’s memory and will act as a means of inspiring even more people about the wonders of welsh wildlife.

The cost of the new elevated bird hide is £20,000 and we are hoping that you may be interested in helping its creation and maintenance through donating toward the project. All donations are appreciated and a plaque acknowledging donors will be erected in the elevated bird hide once completed.

The new elevated bird hide and wader scrapes will not only help toward the conservation of threatened species in Wales, but will also increase opportunities to undertake important ecological research, species recording and long-term monitoring.

We are half way there but we need to raise £10,000 more towards the fund. Any contribution towards the costs will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
