Christian Aid Week 2021
Campaign by Christian Aid (RCN 1105851, SC039150)
Drought drives people to the brink. Storms tear families apart. Raging waters show no mercy. In Kenya the climate crisis has made weather more extreme, whether long drought or relentless rainstorms. Join us this Christian Aid Week (10th -16th) May!

Story

The Rector, Revd Ian Enticott and
The Treasurer, Mr Mike Laurence
are both keen runners. The Parish of Congleton was formed in 2019 combining four former parishes. The parish boundaries are now over 16 miles in length so we propose to run as close as we can to the boundaries while raising money for Christian Aid.

Our route will take us from the centre of Congleton out over Astbury Golf Course, and then up Congleton Edge, into Timbersbrook and over The Cloud before following the River Dane back to Congleton.

It is traditional to 'Beat the Bounds' in the days leading up to Ascension Day. That is in the middle of Christian Aid week. Because of the lockdown it is not going to be easy to go round house to house this year, so we thought, "Why not run round them all instead?"

Christian Aid is a charity that many of the churches in Congleton already support and this provides an opportunity for people to donate to help Christian Aid with their campaign to help those affected by the  climate crisis. Their aid work is directed at anyone in need, whatever religion they profess, and whatever their ethnic or racial origins.

Read on to find out more about the campaign this year:

The climate crisis is leaving people hungry, homeless and heartbroken. People like Rose are struggling to survive without a reliable source of water. From drought to flooding, climate chaos robs people of control over their lives. I often feel hungry, Rose says. Because of climate change, I worry a lot about food. I pray to God that the rainfall will become normal like it used to be. In recent years, the drought has been so bad that its caused a hunger crisis. Crops wither and die. Rivers run dry. People struggle to survive. The coronavirus pandemic has only made this lack of water more critical for Rose. Without water for handwashing, it is a struggle to stay safe from the virus. Please support our fundraising and help to provide reliable water source, for people like Rose.Your gift will help support Christian Aid's vital work with some of the poorest communities in the world.Thank you!
