Here we go!

Abbie and I are pushing ourselves like we have never done before to raise money for Parkinson’s UK to support the charity in finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. We are taking on the Mountainous challenge of hiking up (and down) Ben Nevis on 18th June 2022!

For those who don’t know what Parkinson’s Disease is, it is a progressive condition where the nerve cells in the brain start to deteriorate. This affects the function of a person's brain, muscles and stability over time. The main symptoms can include muscle tremors, stiffness and slow movements. This is a life changing disease and is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, affecting around 1 in 500 people and currently there is no cure. The Parkinson’s UK charity also provides support and care to anyone living with Parkinson’s.

Our inspiration for this fundraiser stems very close to home. Our Dad, Tim, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 4 years ago and it is affecting him in his everyday life. Small tasks become big, small movements become tough. Before his diagnosis, he was always a funny and mischievous guy and we are delighted to say this hasn’t changed! It’s difficult seeing someone you really care about go through the struggles that come with this disease, but we are determined to do what we can to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's.

Along with our other halves, Matt and Phil, we will be training for the big hike over the next few months, which will include hikes up Scafell Pike and Snowdon. This is something entirely out of our comfort zone, but the motivation will come from knowing we are raising money for a worthy cause.

Any donations would be extremely appreciated to our fundraiser no matter how big or small. We have a Parkinson's collection tin for those wishing to make a cash donation. This page will also be active after our hikes and we will provide updates throughout our training journey.
