Thanks for checking out Parlé's charity fundraiser for this year! We'd like to start with telling you a bit about Patch...
We met Patch when she was 14, a young cosplayer who shared our enthusiasm for Kingdom Hearts, joining our first cosplay group as Vexen. Her crazed enthusiasm for science was a big part of the inspiration for what Vexen became in our 'Demyx Time' show! Being the smart cookie that she was, Patch when on to study at the prestigious St. Andrews University, and everyone who knew her agreed that she was going to accomplish great things. She'd written several pieces for her student newspaper, changed her course to something she was more passionate about, was part of the performing arts society and a well-known face around her university campus.
Patch, like many people throughout the world, sadly struggled with an eating disorder and mental illness. As a result of this, she came into contact with the charity Beat, and ended up being so impassioned by their work that she was given the role as a Young Ambassador for the charity! She took her role to its limits, encouraging open dialogue regarding the issues of eating disorders and mental health, trying to remove the taboo surrounding these subjects. As well as doing this publicly, she was also one of the first people to reach out to her friends if she saw them struggling.
It is thanks to Patch that Parlé know of Beat at all, and so in her memory that we wish to fundraise for them.
