Story
On Sunday 18 June 2006 I did the Half IronmanUK 70.3 triathlon to raise money for Heart Research UK for Andrew Wright.
This triathlon was a 1.2 mile open water swim in
Wimbleball
Lake in
Somerset , followed by a 56 mile bike ride through the scenic but mountainous lanes of
Exmoor , and then a half-marathon (13.1 miles). It was the hardest thing I have ever done. The swim was OK, the bike was very tough, but manageable (just!) and the run was dreadful - I walked up all the hills!
But I finished in 7 hours, 50 minutes and 10 seconds - coming third in my age group!
Andrew is a colleague I met through work. In spite of a (relatively!) healthy lifestyle, Andrew suffered a heart attack a few years ago completely out of the blue. Thanks to prompt treatment, Andrew has recovered fully, but he is very keen to support research into cardiac problems so that others, and their families, do not have to go through the pain and trauma that he suffered.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. There's still time to make a donation - for Andrew and for Heart Research UK . Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. If you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please make a donation now.
Many, many thanks for your support. Pat
