South Coast Mighty Hike 2021 · 5 June 2021 ·
I started walking in the autumn of 2018 because I was struggling with too much in my life. Work, brexit as a European, and some other bits.
Walking through the woods near my home in North London by myself each weekend helped me to clear my head, to get some fresh air and to get that much needed physical exercise.
My sister in the Netherlands had been struggling with breast cancer (2x) for nearly 10 years, and a brain tumor was removed earlier that year.
My dad had died of lung cancer in 2015.
I signed up for my first sponsored walk with Cancer Research and walked the The Thames Path in September 2019 - 27km.
I had been far too optimistic ... and had originally signed up for the full marathon! But once I started training I realised how long that takes and how much time the training would take to walk 42km blister-free!
But ... I was surprisingly quick, and I actually was one of the 100 fastest walkers on my distance! (Not bad for somebody who has never been very sporty!)
So ... I signed up for MacMillan's South Coast Path at the end of 2019, and this time it was going to be that marathon walked ... but, then the Pandemic hit. I kept walking and walking, but of course last year everything was cancelled. My regular weekend walks, by myself, is what kept me going throughout that tough year.
And now ... it's confirmed! On Saturday 5 June I am going to walk what's been on my Bucket List for over 2 years! It's going to be tough. (Dutch girls don't do hills!) I have been in training since early March and walk 3-4x week and a long walk every weekend. I am still full of blisters, and not sure if I can do it. But I am going for it, and aiming to do this walk in less than 11 hours.
Your financial support would be much appreciated. And much needed.
Especially now as so many cancer patients have had an even more anxious year with many cancer operations and services being cancelled in the UK and elsewhere.
Because the MacMillan nurses are amazing in giving support to cancer patients, but also their family & friends. And we all need support when times are tough.
And because in the last year MacMillan hasn't been able to fundraise as much as normal. So please give generously if you can. Because we all know somebody with cancer, or who has had cancer, or has passed away.
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. At Macmillan, we give people with cancer everything we’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are our worries. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure.
