Story
‘Lands End to John O’Groats, LEJOG for short, still remains one of the most iconic long distance rides in the world and rightly so. The route covers harsh deserts, active volcanoes, gargantuan glaciers, one hundred and ten percent inclines and even passes through Mordor. The cycle tourist should prepare for highwaymen, goblins and of course punctures. Ok, so I may have an over active imagination, but there can be no denying that LEJOG remains a formidable challenge.’ Berghaus
I am going to cycle the iconic route from Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) to raise funds for Mersey Counsellling and Therapy Centre (MCTC)……
MCTC (www.mctcwirral.org.uk) is providing a lifeline – often literally – for people in the greatest imaginable need in Wirral and beyond. And they do this at low cost, and often no cost. In Wirral, the numbers of people, especially young men, who feel compelled to take their own
lives is truly shocking as is the devastating effect that each suicide has, not alone for the person themselves, but on families, friends, colleagues and neighbours as well as on emergency services, health professionals and on the whole of society.
What makes MCTC unique is they’re a 24/7 suicide prevention service. Any at-risk client is given free access, 24 hours a day, to their own, specially-trained, therapist. It sounds so simple. But giving people in desperate need the certain knowledge that there is one person who guarantees to be with them in their deepest pain wherever, whenever that may be seems to hold the key for hope and meaning in
life and enables people to make a different decision.
I have always done a lot of running and cycling and Lejog is
something I have always wanted to attempt. It’s a long way but I am so
pleased to be able to do it for this great cause. I’m already in training and can’t wait to get started.
PLEASE HELP ME TO GET STARTED on this quest to raise desperately needed funds for MCTC.
