Story

Patrick was just 36 years old when he died of a secondary cancer that had spread from his bowel. What we didn’t realise was that he had lynch syndrome, a hereditary genetic condition that not only increases your risk of getting cancer but also means you get it at a young age. Tragically it was all too late by the time Patrick was diagnosed and there was nothing that could be done to save him but we want something positive to come out of our loss. As part of his legacy we want to help raise awareness of this condition and to help bring about improvements in clinical practice to ensure that all those that present with bowel cancer symptoms get tested for lynch syndrome. This not only means more effective treatment in the first place but also drives doctors to get ahead of future cancers through early diagnostic procedures. These are the specific aims of the Never Too Young campaign which is why we have chosen to support it in memory of Patrick.
