ING New York City Marathon 2010 · 7 November 2010 ·

Get Kids Going! helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. They can then compete in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball etc. With your help, many could become Paralympic champions and world record holders.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On November 7th this year, we are looking to take on the challenges of the New York City Marathon running 26.2 miles through all of the city's 5 main boroughs.

As many of you know, between us we've run a few marathons before (this will be Paul's 7th marathon - but a mere novice in comparison to Andy, who is a veteran of 16 marathons). However, as we know from experience, no matter how many times you've run a marathon before, it never becomes easy!

We are running this race on behalf of ''Get Kids Going!'', a national charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. The charity provide the disabled with specially built sports' wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball and many other sports. It also helps to encourage British disabled children to compete in sporting events by giving them 'sports grants' to help with their training, physiotherapy, travel etc...

Get Kids Going! also provides personalised manual wheelchairs for children to use every day; at home, at school, and to enable them to play with their friends. The cost of a sports wheelchair costs c£3,200; a lightweight manual wheelchair is around £2,500.

We are fortunate enough to have the ability to run the marathon. We also both have a young son and daughter each who thankfully also are fit and healthy. It is easy to sometimes take such things for granted. This is why we have chosen to support this charity - so disabled children and young children can have a similar opportunity to experience the marvellous sense of achievement and satisfaction that participating in sport brings.

We have set ourselves a target to jointly raise £4,000 for the charity, and appreciate any donation, whatever size, to help us to achieve this.

Donating through our JustGiving page is simple, fast and totally secure - it's the most efficient way to donate.Once you donate via this site, your money will be sent directly to the charity, and justgiving.com will make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer - we therefore raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now for this really worthy cause!

Thank you so much

Paul & Andy
