Paul's English Channel Solo Swim

The Living Seas 'Project' is something that all of the UK sea-side local
Wildlife Trusts are involved with, and campaigning for.
Each Trust has different priorities but all are working towards a cleaner, cooler, wildlife-rich ocean. The ocean is an incredible resource for mankind, but just like our land, we need to maintain it's health in order to maintain ours! I know there are so many priority 'good causes' right now, but I have particular affinity to the long-term safeguarding of our Environment far and near, and I believe the Local Wildlife Trusts do a great job locally.
I would like to feel I am helping, in a small way at least, as I plough my way, arm over arm, towards France (probably dodging refugee vessels, and tankers) as I swim. The shortest distance to France is about 21 miles but with tides and currents it is likely I will be swimming for at least 25 miles, and I expect to take between 14 and 18 hrs, say 15 hrs given fair conditions, and success! (about 60% of solo swimmers are successful). This will happen (weather permitting) the week beginning 4th July 2022.

The Sussex Wildlife Trust 'Living Seas Project' is working towards establishing and enhancing Marine Protected Areas, whereby the best sea areas for wildlife can be protected from such things as overfishing and pollution (eg by sewage). One such protected zone is
‘Beachy Head West’ which includes The Cuckmere Marine Haven. The chalk reef here is "teeming with life, including crabs, mussels, and oysters, and is home to a beautiful and rare seahorse".

Another aspect involves volunteer divers collecting data on what's out there in the sea right now, and how this is, and has been changing over time. The research from this work provides the information to help set up new Marine Protection Areas both locally and nationally. This 'Sussex Seasearch' project, as well as other local projects, needs support funding which I am hoping you will contribute to, by sponsoring me now.

I shall be swimming alongside a small boat with 2 or 3 'pilots', and my support team of 3 'helpers' too. Amongst other things, they will be feeding me quite frequently, and will help to keep me going by their moral support.
You will also be motivating me through your kind sponsorship!
Many thanks if you can.
"The Sussex Wildlife Trust is a conservation charity for everyone who cares about nature in Sussex. We focus on protecting the wonderfully rich natural life that is found across our towns, countryside and coast. By working alongside local people we create opportunities for us all to connect with nature, and for nature to thrive in even the most unlikely places. Together we can make sure that future generations living in Sussex will be able to enjoy the sense of wonder and well-being that nature offers. Together we can make Sussex life richer"
