Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
I'm going to be running The London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October 2021. I have decided to choose Dementia Forward as my chosen charity, they are the leading dementia charity for York and North Yorkshire.
My mum very sadly has severe dementia and has been battling with the disease for about 10 years but in the past year it has really taken control of her and she can barely do anything for herself.
It has saddened everyone around her, to see a very strong confident woman who took great pride in how she looked to someone who now needs around the clock support. She gets confused and disoriented in her own home, the smallest of tasks leave her feeling exasperated and agitated and basically we are losing our mum by the day to this very cruel disease.
Well that was the story then, since then the disease started to really take its grip on her and Chris who had been doing an amazing job of taking care of her, then received some help by a visiting carer twice daily. Further then the cares advised that the time had come that Mum should go into a nursing home, a decision that came with a very heavy heart.
Well things were going ok for about two weeks in the home and then Chris mentioned when he made visits that she stated to deteriorate severely, she resisted to take food and water. the final straw was when she had a fall, which 10 years ago when she fell she broke her hip and was never the same person since. The care home saw it best that Mum should be taken to hospital.
From 8 weeks of her been taken into a care home on the 16th August 2021 at 12.30am my Mum passed away peacefully at Harrogate General Hospital. She was cared amazingly by the NHS staff.
This is why I am choosing Dementia forward because they have played an invaluable piece of support for not just my mum but also her husband, Chris who is now her full time carer. They have helped with understanding dementia, offer a support helpline, dementia specialist nurses and advisors, wellbeing activities and community hubs.
I hope to raise lots of money and smash my PB for my mum who I miss greatly and also for others who have lost their loved ones to this disease.
