Hi everyone, What a great adventure had on the Andean trail, we reached the summit of the highest mountain in Peru at 4,865 meters in 4 days. All 22 of the team had an excellent time. Very strenuous at some points, whereby we could only walk one foot in front of the other due to the altitude. We had an amazing team of Trekkers who prepared all our meals and provided all the facilities we needed. Each day posed a different challenge, having four seasons in one day. Climbing through passes that were completely covered I'm snow. Walking through rivers and streams. The team effort was outstanding. next week there will be a link to our flicker site which will show hundreds of pictures of our event, the challenges we endured and the spirit of the team. I want to thank everyone for their incredible generosity, support and believing in me. I would also like to thank DW Sports and Fitness for their amazing personal training classes that got me prepared for this event. You all made this possible for me, Thank you so much. Paul Handy

Thank you very much to all of you who have sponsored my event. A special thank you to all my neighbours here on Celtic Road, Rachel, Emma, Andy, Jenny and Claire for your special support and donations x

Hi, My name is Paul Handy and I work as a Staff Nurse within the National Health Service. I am also a Dignity Champion for Wrexham and Flintshire, promoting enhanced nursing care to all those in need of treatment when admitted to an acute medical setting

I have an enhanced interest in Parkinson's disease because the disease has had a huge impact both on my childhood and adult life.

My mother worked in health care, completing her career as a matron within the field of geriatric medicine. I often attended my mothers place of work and witnessed the disease processes of patients suffering from parkinson's disease, although at that time there was very little evidenced based practice to support the diagnosis and treatments of this disease. My father was diagnosed with parkinson's disease when he was 62 years of age and died at the age of 67 from complex medical needs associated to the disease processes.

Parkinson's disease has always made me look to my future and has helped me when planning my career pathway.

Each day poses different challenges in the field of nursing. There are many disease processes that have triggered the need to enhance my knowledge in the treatment of care for those patients who have long-term health conditions, but my love for helping those who suffer from parkinson's diseases has always taken paramount importance in my career pathway.

I have been a member of Parkinson's Uk for a number of years now and have supported the cause throughout my time as a member. This September I am trekking the Andes aroud Peru with other Parkinson UK members alike and I would graciously appreciate your support.
