We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure.

Paul’s mother, Maria, was diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies back in 2016 at the young age of 61. There had been a dramatic change in her personality, ability to communicate and her cognitive function for a couple of years before her diagnosis. Maria is now in a dementia specialist nursing home following the untimely death of her loving husband, Steve, who was also her primary carer. Through time, Maria has lost the ability to walk, communicate, feed herself or look after herself without specialist assistance at the home. Dementia is often associated with memory loss, but sadly it is so much more than that.

JDP has been a close friend of the family for a long time, Maria was like a second mother to him whilst his parents were a little further down the road. He was always seen as part of the family.

To show support for both Maria but the charity as a whole, Paul and JDP have decided to embark on a challenge of walking a marathon a day starting in Stourbridge where we grew up and went to school, and then down to Bristol where JDP has spent most of his adult life (when not in the desert or in HK) and finishing in London where Paul has now set up home/ work/ life. Hopefully taking in some nice scenery along the way. This gruelling challenge will take 8 days, and the route is highlighted below:

Friday 3rd June - Pedmore to Malvern

Saturday 4th June - Malvern to Forest of Dean

Sunday 5th June - Forest of Dean to Thornbury (via Bridge)

Monday 6th June - Thornbury to Bristol

Tuesday 7th June - Bristol to New Forest

Wednesday 8th June - New Forest to Basingstoke

Thursday 9th June - Basingstoke to Ascot

Friday 10th June - Ascot to Kingston Upon Thames

Saturday 11th June - Kingston Upon Thames to Westminster (Big Ben)

We would like your donations to help this fantastic charity. But we also invite you to join us on any of the legs of the walk. Whether you want to join for a day, a couple of hours, meet us along the way to offer words of support / abuse or welcome us at our final destination for a bite to eat and a few deserved beers. Just let us know what you plan to do so we don’t miss you on our journey.

Thanks for visiting the page and we look forward to your donations, every little helps.
