Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2013 I started road cycling again after a 30 year break.

This was to self rehabilitate following spinal surgery to partially remove a prolapsed disc.

In the years since the surgery, I have cycled the Manchester to Blackpool annual ride 5 times for the British Heart Foundation, The Christie Manchester and Maggie's Manchester. This has been an experience that I have thoroughly enjoyed on every occasion.

I have always wanted to cycle more often, ride further and raise more for charity.

This has led me to find the Conqueror Virtual Lands End to John O'Groats Challenge. I competed this in 35 days and loved every minute. I have decided to continue riding on the famous Route 66 as an added challenge.

The overall challenge is a gruelling 3,364 miles.

A word about Maggie's.

Maggie's Manchester is a non-clinical place of serenity located near to the Christie Hospital Manchester.

The fabulous volunteers look after the welfare needs of patients that have been diagnosed with Cancer, as well as their family and friends.

As many of you know, my beautiful wife was diagnosed with two types of Breast Cancer in 2015. She has had several operations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, all of which was an emotional rollercoaster.

The Maggie's Centre in Manchester hadn't been built at the time of Jinnett's treatment in 2015, so we didn't have the support of their awe inspiring building and volunteers.

In 2016 following the opening of the Manchester centre, Jinnett was invited to join the Maggie's on the Runway catwalk and the rest has been told on Social Media, Local and National press. The event is held every 2 years and is a life changing experience for those taking part but also a life line for the centre.

Unfortunately due to the current lockdowns and risks of Covid-19 the event can not take place this year leaving the centre in a difficult financial position.

This is why I have decided to set myself this difficult  challenge.

At the start of 2020, I set myself a goal of riding 1,000 miles for the  year. This challenge means that I will be riding 3,364 miles in just 5 months.

You might think that this may be  a doddle, but consider this....

I am 51 years old and I have a dodgy back and admittedly, overweight . I will be also working my normal shifts throughout, plus any overtime I can get, so time will be limited.

There are a few ways that you can help.

Stay safe and love to you all.
