Well we’ve done it! We’ve walked from St Bees on the Cumbrian coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea in 13 days. We covered over 200 miles (including the scenic diversions and the unplanned and improvised route detours). I recorded over 500,000 steps taken with my pedometer and we climbed to the highest point of 2560 feet (780 metres) at Kidsty Pike in the Lake District. We did it!
Thanks to you, we’ve raised over £2000 and donations are still coming in. A very big ‘thank you’ to you all for having generously donated to Accuro.
Accuro Saturday Play Club, based at Dame Bradbury's School in Saffron Walden opens on 42 Saturdays a year, from 10.00 to 14.00. The club for children of six to sixteen years of age aims to provide opportunities for children with a range of disabilities and needs to engage in constructive and imaginative play within a safe, caring environment.
In Feb 2011, the Saturday Play Club children and their families spent a wonderful weekend at Center Parcs in Thetford Forest. This trip was supported by Play Club staff and was funded in part by Essex County Council. As part of the funding cuts, no further funding for short breaks will be provided. Consequently, we, Lorraine Harlow, Cath Read and Paul Moktar are going to do 'The Long Walk' to raise money for a similar trip.
The Long Walk is Wainwright’s Coast to Coast in 13 days, 191 miles (minimum), walking From St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay on the East coast through three national parks. The Coast to Coast is described as one of the world’s best long distance walks! Thats great for us! But it would be even better if we could raise £5000 for Accuro. We start on the19th of August and finish on the 31st August. Please sponsor us on The Long Walk.
