2022 London Duathlon · 4 September 2022 ·
On 26 July my eldest sister, Angela, a retired 66 year old nurse, had a second massive stroke in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she has lived and worked since moving there in 1979. She has been left for want of a better phrase, in a vegetative state. My 91 year old mother and I were shocked to see my sister diminished in such a devastating way. We feel helpless as we hope for a recovery that may never come. At this stage it seems she will never be able to go home and will be in care for the rest of her life. As you may know, I lost my other sister, Rita, to leukaemia in 1966, aged just eight years old. In the many years I worked for the House of Morgan (Morgan Stanley 1991-2007 and JPMorgan 2007-2019) I completed five London Duathlons (Run/Bike/Run) to raise money for the charity, Children with Leukaemia at Great Ormond Street. This year the London Duathlon takes place in Richmond Park on 4 September and with my sister very much in my thoughts I will take part in the 'sprint' event (5km run, 22km bike, 5km run) with my eldest son, Charlie (obviously I want to beat him!). We are seeking to raise money for the Stroke Association and would really appreciate you sponsoring this cause. My sister is fortunate in that she has a very supportive network of friends in Lausanne and around the world. Some stroke victims are less fortunate. I want to place on record the wonderful medical attention she is receiving at the CHUV in Lausanne, the first hospital she worked in when she arrived in Lausanne in 1979.
