JOHN O’GROATS TO LANDS END
5 DAY CYCLE CHALLENGE 21-25 MAY 2011
960 miles•5 days•2 charities•1 incredible challenge
Ten riders from The London Regiment and Nottingham City Transport intend to push themselves to the limit and ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just five days from 21 – 25 May 2011 covering 180 miles per day. You will be aware that this is no easy task and there is a very real probability that not everyone will succeed.
The aim of the ride, which has the support of Chris Boardman MBE, is to raise as much money as possible for the Help For Heroes and The London Regiment Welfare and Benevolent Fund charities. Chris has supported the project from inception and said: “It’s inspiring how Help 4 Heroes has instilled such strong feeling in so many people. Good luck with your endeavour, it’s a very worthy cause.”
The riders will comprise members of the public together with serving soldiers from both the Regular and Territorial Army with ages ranging from 22 – 57.
The London Regiment and the wider British Army have agreed to provide logistic support for the endeavour to include transport, food and accommodation.
Raleigh have been creating market-leading bikes in Nottingham for 125 years and have kindly agreed to support the ride by providing bikes and equipment at cost together with invaluable technical support.
To help with fund-raising efforts Nottingham City Transport have agreed to advertise the event on eight bus sides in Nottingham for one month, providing the equivalent of £3,000 of advertising space.
Budgens, the supermarket group, has donated £300.00 of vouchers to purchase energy drinks etc.
Carlton Forum Leisure Centre in Nottingham has offered the Nottingham based riders free gym membership to help get themselves into shape for the ride.
