Paul and Barrie’s Skydive for The Brain Tumour Charity · 3 June 2022

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

My father in law Barrie and myself will be skydiving from 15000ft at Dunkeswell, Devon on Friday 3rd June.

As well as hopefully enjoying the experience, or failing that terrifying ourselves, we will be taking the opportunity to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. We have chosen this charity having seen loved ones suffer the indiscriminate devastation and destruction caused by brain tumours

Chris

My great friend, Chris Darts sadly passed away in March 2021 aged just 41 having lost his battle with brain tumours. Chris left behind an amazing family including his wife Hope and two fabulous children Leo and Linnea who he loved so much.

I was fortunate to grow up playing cricket, badminton and generally messing around with Chris, as well as being lucky enough to go on holidays with the Darts family to North Devon and Cornwall which were always great fun.

Although in later years we didn’t catch up as frequently as we should have, when we did conversation always flowed easily. Chris was one of my best friends and simply a really good guy. I miss him as I know so many others do.

Olivia

Barrie’s granddaughter and my niece, Olivia, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in April 2020. The journey that the family were to embark upon was frightening, unpredictable and outside of their control. Olivia had to endure three major surgical operations. The last operation took 10 hours and left her in intensive care for three weeks. The  medical care she received was excellent but what she went through at the age of 4 was traumatic.

Olivia has been left with some life changing conditions but thankfully this can be managed by daily medication and injections. Olivia is a bright, beautiful and brave little girl and we are all very grateful that she is alive, well and smiling 😊.

Hopefully, by raising money and sharing our story we will give hope to others going through similar experiences that there can be a positive outcome. If you are able to make a donation, no matter what size, you will be helping make a difference.
